Chemical Derivatization of Commercially Available Condensed and Hydrolyzable Tannins

Novel valorization routes for tannins were opened by the development of a simple, straightforward, robust, and flexible approach to selective functionalization condensed hydrolyzable tannins. Irrespective different degrees polymerization, commercial efficiently functionalized generation an ether linkage bound short linker carrying desired functional group. Functionalizations could be realized at varying technical loadings, i.e., amounts introduced tannin-alien functionalities per number phenolic hydroxyl groups. The same strategy was found suitable synthesis polyethylene glycol-functionalized tannin copolymers. Condensed with carboxylic acid moieties converted into tannin–oligopeptide hybrid.
