Case report: scurvy in a child with autistic spectrum disorder due to food selectivity

Case presentation: O.R, male, 2 years and 6 months, language social delay. The diet was based on bread, rice, beans yogurt. Petechiae gingival bleeding were noted 55 days ago. After 15 days, progressive pain in the lower limbs prevented child to sit or walk. clinical examination showed edema, pseudofolliculitis, petechiae intense palpation mobilization of limbs, spots hypertrophy gingivae. Blood count cerebral spinal fluid analysis performed, with results within normal range. Bone marrow biopsy ruled out acute leukosis. A limb MRI presented marked bone edema metaphyseal region both femurs, tibias fibulas, signs periostitis adjacent muscle groups. given analgesics ascorbic acid supplementation (300mg/day orally), showing improved partial motor recovery. M-Chat scale applied positive for autism spectrum disorder.
