Biochar-Swine Manure Impact on Soil Nutrients and Carbon Under Controlled Leaching Experiment Using a Midwestern Mollisols

چکیده
Biochar application to the soil can improve quality and nutrient leaching loss from swine manure adapted soils. Our working hypothesis was that biochar-incubated with could be a better amendment than conventional application. The manure-biochar would decrease increase plant-available nutrients. study objectives were 1) assess physicochemical properties of mixture after lab incubation 2) evaluate impact biochar-treated on total C, N, other major minor nutrients in comparison soil. Three biochars neutral pH red-oak (RO), highly alkaline autothermal corn (Zea mays) stover (HAP), 3) mild acidic Fe-treated (HAPE) incubated for month. biochar-manure applied triplicate columns an rate determined by P 2 O 5 -P content or mixtures incubation. ammonium (NH 4 + ), nitrate (NO 3 ? reactive concentrations column leachates recorded eight events. Soil compared between treatments control Manure-(HAP&HAPE) biochar significantly increased organic matter (OM), all (numerically) improved bulk density. Concentrations NH NO MHAPE during this 4-week KCl-extractable at end experiment. A significant reduction Mehlich3 Cu also observed manure-HAPE control. manure-red oak Mn availability Overall, enabled stabilize C several manure. subsequent plant This proof-of-the-concept suggests used solve both environmental agronomic challenges further sustainability animal crop production agriculture.

Hardwood biochar and manure co-application to a calcareous soil.
Biochar may affect the mineralization rate of labile organic C sources such as manures via microbial community shifts, and subsequently affect nutrient release. In order to ascertain the positive or negative priming effect of biochar on manure, dairy manure (2% by wt.) and a hardwood-based, fast pyrolysis biochar were applied (0%, 1%, 2%, and 10% by wt.) to a calcareous soil. Destructive sampli...
متن کاملStability and stabilisation of biochar and green manure in soil with different organic carbon contents
Due to its recalcitrance against microbial degradation, biochar is very stable in soil compared to other organic matter additions, making its application to soils a suitable approach for the build-up of soil organic carbon (SOC). The net effects of such biochar addition also depend on its interactions with existing organic matter in soils. A study was established to investigate how the status o...

Enzymatic hydrolysis of organic phosphorus in swine manure and soil.
Organic phosphorus (Po) exists in many chemical forms that differ in their susceptibility to hydrolysis and, therefore, bioavailability to plants and microorganisms. Identification and quantification of these forms may significantly contribute to effective agricultural P management. Phosphatases catalyze reactions that release orthophosphate (Pi) from Po compounds. Alkaline phosphatase in tris-...
