Abstract This paper responds to Bathelt and Li’s (2020) call for selecting more appropriate methods improving their rigour by evaluating the feasibility of using factorial surveys anticipate future relocation behaviour. By utilising a case study approach, focussing on Brexit UK FinTech industry, examines what extent business managers’ intentions are driven factors similar those known drive actual behaviour compares with companies’ outcomes. We use survey conducted in 2018, which allows us quantitatively analyse impact different scenarios selected company characteristics likelihood intend relocate unit (or some functions thereof) EU and/or US. Additionally, we collected qualitative secondary data outcomes surveyed companies February 2022 investigating online platforms, such as LinkedIn, Companies House, Crunchbase, well webpages. The results this mixed-methods approach highlight significant variation intentions, importance geographical institutional proximity show that behaviour, perception economic consequences scenarios, territorial embeddedness, nationality. Most importantly, our findings indicate that, although only moderately accurate when predicting exact destination relocation, they highly whether relocates or not.
