Performance Characterization of Coatings on Treated-wood
Coating performance is greatly influenced by the properties of the wood substrate. This study was focused on evaluating the performance of coatings on both preservative- and thermally-treated wood. A number of commercially formulated semi-transparent stains Alkyd, Alkyd-Acrylic and PU were applied on four different types of preservative treated and heat-treated wood and their performances were ...
متن کاملAssociations among Halotolerance, Osmotolerance and Exopolysaccharide Production of Aureobasidium Melanogenum Strains from Habitats under Salt Stress
Associations among halotolerance, osmotolerance and exopolysaccharide (EPS) production of 50 Aureobasidium melanogenum strains isolated from various habitats along the coasts of Thailand were compared. Using Fisher’s Exact Test, significant associations were found between halotolerance vs osmotolerance (P = 0.004), halotolerance vs EPS production (P = 0.049) and osmotolerance vs EPS production ...
متن کاملPaint Deterioration as a Result of the Growth of Aureobasidium pullulans on Wood.
Growth of Aureobasidium was noted on both painted and unpainted wood surfaces but not on painted glass slides, indicating that the source of carbon and energy for growth was not associated with paint components but was probably supplied by the wood. Several aromatic compounds related to aromatic extractives of wood were shown to support growth of this fungus.
متن کاملEffect of Weathering on Wood Treated with Tall Oil Combined with Some Additives
Growing interest on bio-based material has led to focus on environmentally benign wood treatment systems because of the environmental concerns. Tall oil is a by-product from pulp and paper industry, contains resin and fatty acids, and is biodegradable. Tall oil treated wood can provide some reduction in water uptake and increase in decay resistance. In this research crude tall oil was dissolved...
متن کاملOil Uptake Percentage in Oil-Heat-Treated Wood, its Determination by Soxhlet Extraction, and its Effects on Wood Compression Strength Parallel to the Grain
Oil heat treatment can effectively improve the dimensional stability and bio-durability of wood. However, the characteristics of high oil uptake (50 percent or higher) and high susceptibility to leaching from wood have an adverse effect on subsequent manufacturing processes of wood product and production costs. A solvent extraction (100% ethanol) process was used to extract the surplus oil from...
