AUDITORY ABILITIES IN INDIVIDUALS WITH AND WITHOUT FORMAL MUSICAL TRAINING

چکیده
Introduction Auditory perception can be enhanced by musical training and practice. Considering the multiple brain areas involved in learning, good auditory perceptual skills contribute to phonological awareness, speech recognition presence of noise, reading, syllable recognition, other language skills. Material methods There were 30 adults between 18 27 years old who participated. They divided into two groups: 15 individuals without formal (Non-Musicians) with 5 or more (Musicians), paired gender age. Procedures used for assessing their hearing Duration Pattern test, Staggered Spondaic Word Masking Level Difference Dichotic Consonant–Vowel test. Results In all tests, Musicians group showed a higher average score than Non-Musicians. MLD level difference was 3 dB Non-Musicians (p = 0.001). also statistically significant mean differences groups DP SSW test right ear, DCV (number errors). Conclusions Individuals show better attention abilities, which are important developing listening skills, resulting communication linguistic performance compared prior training.

متن کاملShort-Term Musical Training and Pyschoacoustical Abilities
The aim of the study was to assess the effect of short-term perceptual training of music on some psycho-acoustical measures. The study was carried out in three phases. In first the phase pre-training evaluation was done which included raga identification and various psycho acoustical tests. Psycho-acoustical tests included measurement of differential limen of frequency and intensity, duration d...
متن کاملMusical Training and the Aging Auditory System: Implications for Cognitive Abilities and Hearing Speech in Noise
Much of our daily communication occurs in the presence of background noise, compromising our ability to hear. While understanding speech in noise is a challenge for everyone, it becomes increasingly difficult as we age. Although aging is generally accompanied by hearing loss, this perceptual decline cannot fully account for the difficulties experienced by older adults for hearing in noise. Decr...
متن کاملMusical training and auditory global-local precedence
People demonstrate a consistent tendency to favor holistic or global processing over processing of local details in many perceptual domains; this tendency is called global-local precedence. Formal musical training is associated with qualitative changes in auditory processing, but the number of years required remains unclear, particularly for any perceptual differences between untrained and mini...
متن کاملInteractions of cognitive and auditory abilities in congenitally blind individuals.
Congenitally blind individuals have been found to show superior performance in perceptual and memory tasks. In the present study, we asked whether superior stimulus encoding could account for performance in memory tasks. We characterized the performance of a group of congenitally blind individuals on a series of auditory, memory and executive cognitive tasks and compared their performance to th...
