Aquatic invertebrate protein sources for long-duration space travel

During the summer of 2020, NASA returned to launching astronauts International Space Station (ISS) from American soil. By 2024, NASA's mission is return Moon, and by 2028 create a sustainable presence. Long duration missions come with obstacles, especially when trying environment in location where “living off land” impossible. Some resources on Moon can be recovered or resupplied; however, many such as those needed for sustaining life must recycled grown support humans. To achieve sustainability, food water using elements found within habitat. current work focuses resupply growing plants supplemental nutrient content. This paper examines possibility aquaculture systems purify while nutrient-rich species sources, which aquatic sources would ideal habitat environment, might provide an test case future studies aboard ISS. The should rapidly high protein content low launch mass requirements. Although there are numerous challenges unknown technology gaps maintaining reduced gravity environments, benefit employing great advantage towards creating presence beyond Earth's orbit aquaculture.
