Annual Carbon Sequestration Patterns in Trees: A Case Study from Scots Pine Monospecific Stands and Mixed Stands with Sessile Oak in Central Poland

چکیده
The need to understand the carbon sequestration ability of trees under current and future climatic scenarios is fundamental predict role forest in counterbalancing global warming. In this study, we investigated Pinus sylvestris L. a setting pure mixed forests with Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. Central Poland. Beside traditional growth measures, i.e., Ring Width, Basal Area Increment, wood density, utilized also new Index called BAIden, which combines Increment mean ring density depict trees. showed different sensitivity variability depending on tree admixture, while presented few differences between forests. According BAIden index, accumulation P. similar index was informative main drivers sequestration. Considering scenarios, will be facilitated by rising temperatures late winter-early spring reduced decreasing precipitation during summer. Finally, discussed perspective applicability for further studies climate change.

Estimating Long-Term Carbon Sequestration Patterns in Even- and Uneven-Aged Southern Pine Stands
Carbon (C) sequestration has become an increasingly important consideration for forest management in North America, and has particular potential in pine-dominated forests of the southern United States. Using existing literature on plantations and long-term studies of naturally regenerated loblolly (Pinus taeda) and shortleaf (Pinus echinata) pine-dominated stands on the Crossett Experimental Fo...

Woody encroachment and thickening have occurred throughout the western United States and have been proposed as important processes in the US carbon (C) budget despite large uncertainty in the magnitude of these effects. In this study we investigated ponderosa pine encroachment near Boulder, Colorado. We reconstructed a time series of forest structure to estimate changes in C storage by the tree...
متن کاملViability of thinning sessile oak stands by girdling
The effects of girdling were analysed in a sessile oak (Quercus petraea Matts. Leibl.) forest with an 80-year-old coppice with standard structure in northern Spain. The study evaluated the viability of girdling as an alternative to felling trees during crown thinning. Eighty-four direct competitors of selected future crop trees were girdled by double notching and peeling. Three years after gird...

Dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen leaching from Scots pine, Norway spruce and silver birch stands in southern Sweden
The effects of three common tree species – Scots pine, Norway spruce and silver birch – on leaching of dissolved organic carbon and dissolved nitrogen were studied in an experimental forest with podzolised soils in southern Sweden. We analyzed soil water collected with lysimeters and modeled water fluxes to estimate dissolved C and N fluxes. Specific UV absorbance (SUVA) was analyzed to get inf...
