Anisotropically Fatigue?Resistant Hydrogels

چکیده

Nature builds biological materials from limited ingredients, however, with unparalleled mechanical performances compared to artificial materials, by harnessing inherent structures across multi-length-scales. In contrast, synthetic material design overwhelmingly focuses on developing new compounds, and fails reproduce the properties of natural counterparts, such as fatigue resistance. Here, a simple yet general strategy engineer conventional hydrogels more than 100-fold increase in thresholds is reported. This proven be universally applicable various species hydrogel including polysaccharides (i.e., alginate, cellulose), proteins gelatin), polymers poly(vinyl alcohol)s), well corresponding polymer composites. These fatigue-resistant exhibit record-high threshold over most soft making them low-cost, high-performance, durable alternatives used those circumstances robotics, muscles, etc.

Anisotropically Inflating Universes

We show that in theories of gravity that add quadratic curvature invariants to the EinsteinHilbert action there exist expanding vacuum cosmologies with positive cosmological constant which do not approach the de Sitter universe. Exact solutions are found which inflate anisotropically. This behaviour is driven by the Ricci curvature invariant and has no counterpart in the general relativistic li...

Anisotropically structured magnetic aerogel monoliths.

Texturing of magnetic ceramics and composites by aligning and fixing of colloidal particles in a magnetic field is a powerful strategy to induce anisotropic chemical, physical and especially mechanical properties into bulk materials. If porosity could be introduced, anisotropically structured magnetic materials would be the perfect supports for magnetic separations in biotechnology or for magne...

Anisotropically weighted MRI.

The intensity of an isotropically weighted MR image is proportional to a rotationally invariant measure of bulk diffusion, Trace(D) (where D is the effective diffusion tensor). Such images can be acquired from as few as two diffusion-weighted images (DWIs). Analogously, the intensity of an anisotropically weighted MR image is proportional to a rotationally invariant measure of diffusion anisotr...

Gapped DNA is anisotropically bent.

Ionizing radiation damages DNA in several ways, including through formation of a single-nucleoside gap in one DNA strand. We have developed a two-dimensional gel electrophoresis method to investigate the effect of a strand gap on DNA structure. We generate a library of gapped DNA molecules by treating a DNA restriction fragment with the hydroxyl radical, generated by the reaction of Fe(II) EDTA...

Thermomechanical Response of Anisotropically Conductive Film

Anisotropically conductive film (ACF) is a smart electronic packaging material that consumes minimal space for connecting an IC chip to a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel or a printed circuit board. It consists of an adhesive resin and fine conductive fillers such as metallic particles or metal-coated polymer balls. The fillers are compressed and maintained at a certain elastic capability ena...
