An experimental study on pre-stretched double-chamber 6000-series aluminium profiles subjected to quasi-static and dynamic axial crushing

Automotive crash boxes require a material selection with strength and ductility in balanced combination. In this work, the behaviour of double-chamber AA6063 AA6082 aluminium profiles subjected to quasi-static dynamic axial crushing was studied experimentally. The were stretched two different levels between extrusion artificial ageing temper T6. higher pre-stretch resulted more ductile slightly lower ultimate tensile strength. By visual inspection by studying X-ray Computed Tomography scans tested profiles, loading found cause larger amount fracture than loading. • Pre-straining extrusions before results ductility. Impact mean force less behaviour. CT deformed used study fracture.
