An Asymmetrical 19-Level Inverter with a Reduced Number of Switches and Capacitors

Multilevel inverters are able to provide loads with voltages of high power quality using several DC sources, capacitors, switches, and diodes in their structures. However, the usage higher number semiconductor devices (switches diodes) capacitors causes an increase losses costs decreases efficiency. Thus, lowering switches is a challenging issue designing multilevel inverter. In this paper, asymmetrical inverter proposed that produces 19-level output voltages. The circuit composed nine six diodes, two isolated sources. comparison other topologies, most important advantage introduced topology lower which leads decrease gate drivers total volume system. During charging process, never connect each series, i.e., they self-balancing do not require extra circuits. offers harmonic distortion (THD) 7.4% voltage, less than 8%, complying IEEE standards. performance validated under various load conditioning through experimental setup laboratory.
