Parkinson gaixotasuna ohiko gaixotasun neurodegeneratiboa da, patologikoki Lewy gorputzen presentziagatik eta neurona dopaminergikoen galera progresiboagatik bereizten dena. Gaur egun, gaixotasunaren diagnostikoa irizpide klinikoetan oinarrituta dago; hau gorputz-adarren dardara, mugimenduen moteltasuna edo muskuluen gogortasuna bezalako sintoma motorrak agertzen direnean diagnostikatzen da.
