Acute Toxicity Study of Anti-diarrheal Herbal Combination in Mice

This study was conducted to test the acute anti-diarrheal toxicity made from a combination of herbal extracts contain leaves guava (Psidium guajava), turmeric (Curcuma domestica), fruit mojokeling (Terminalia chebula) and pomegranate (Punica gratum) peel. In vivo carried out on female Swiss Webster mice at Toxicology Pharmacology Laboratory Institut Teknologi Bandung Pharmacy School. The five tested dose levels were equivalent 1/2 (164 mg/kg body weight) one (328 humans daily three other doses, 1, 2, 5 g/kg weight in control group. assessment included observing animal behavior caused by toxic effect after sample administration, if any, compared its before giving preparation (T0) control. Observations carefully during first 4 hours administration T8, T24, continued periodically every day until endpoint testing (H14). Changes also monitored endpoint, animals sacrificed for macroscopic examination organs organ index determination. results showed no behavioral clinical signs found administering all doses. There that died treatment, shows there abnormalities vital (lungs, heart, liver, kidney, stomach) products up mice. Taking these into account, it can be concluded those as mentioned earlier, is not toxic, lethal 50 (LD50) >5 weight.
