Recent Type II Radio Supernovae
We present the results of radio observations, taken primarily with the Very Large Array, of Supernovae 1993J, 2001gd, 2001em, 2002hh, 2004dj, and 2004et. We have fit a parameterized model to the multi-frequency observations of each supernova. We compare the observed and derived radio properties of these supernovae by optical classification and discuss the implications.
متن کاملNucleosynthesis in Type Ii Supernovae
Presupernova evolution and explosive nucleosynthesis in massive stars for main-sequence masses from 13 M ⊙ to 70 M ⊙ are calculated. We examine the dependence of the super-nova yields on the stellar mass, 12 C(α, γ) 16 O rate, and explosion energy. The supernova yields integrated over the initial mass function are compared with the solar abundances.
متن کاملModerately luminous type II Supernovae ?
Context. Core-collapse Supernovae (CC-SNe) descend from progenitors more massive than about 8 M . Because of the young age of the progenitors, the ejecta may eventually interact with the circumstellar medium (CSM) via highly energetic processes detectable in the radio, X–ray, ultraviolet (UV) and, sometimes, in the optical domains. Aims. In this paper we present ultraviolet, optical and near in...
متن کاملSemi-analytic Continuum Spectra of Type II Supernovae and the Expanding Photosphere Method of Distance Determination
We extend the approximate radiative transfer analysis of Hershkowitz, Linder, and Wagoner (1986) to a more general class of supernova model atmospheres, using a simple fit to the effective continuum opacity produced by lines (Wagoner, Perez, and Vasu 1991). At the low densities considered, the populations of the excited states of hydrogen are governed mainly by photoionization and recombination...
متن کاملOptical Observations of Type II Supernovae
I present an overview of optical observations (mostly spectra) of Type II supernovae. SNe II are defined by the presence of hydrogen, and exhibit a very wide variety of properties. SNe II-L tend to show evidence of late-time interaction with circumstellar material. SNe IIn are distinguished by relatively narrow emission lines with little or no P-Cygni absorption component and (quite often) slow...
