A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON MEDICATION USE PATTERN IN PATIENTS WITH RISK FACTORS OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

Objectives: The current study was undertaken to review and assess the medication usage pattern in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: A 12-month prospective observational carried out at Shadan Teaching General Hospital, Peerancheru (Hyderabad), involving 384 CKD considering inclusion exclusion criteria. Medication evaluation for optimization done using World Health Organization (WHO) core prescribing indicators. Data collected were entered Microsoft Excel. Descriptive statistics such as mean, percentage, standard deviation (SD) used present sociodemographic characteristics of participants. Results: Out total patients, 249 (65%) male 135 (35%) female a mean age 58.28 (SD: 13.12). prescriptions scrutinized 3634 drugs, which drugs acting on cardiovascular system most prescribed (36.37%). average number per prescription found be 9.08 prescriptions. percentage by generic name 15.57%. encounters antibiotics 25%, whereas injections 86%. from Essential Drug List or Formulary 26.36%. Conclusion: Assessment patterns WHO indicators helps reinforce hospital guidelines optimal medications. introduction clinical pharmacist along multidisciplinary team provides intensive care improve outcome.
